Emergency Medical Technician – Basic Course:    

A Basic Emergency Medical Technician is an individual who has been trained to perform basic emergency medical care.

The delivery of basic first aid, CPR, AED, administration of oxygen, the delivery of certain medications as defined by the Department of Transportation National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) National Standard Curriculum, and other basic equipment used by emergency response personnel are included at this level.

A Southern Nevada Health District Certified EMT-B may provide basic emergency medical care only when functioning on duty as an Ambulance Attendant, Aeromedical Ambulance Attendant, or Firefighter Attendant.

Saturday Class, 8am-4pm
Registration opens:  Wednesday, September 15, 2010
 
Orientation: October 23, 2010
First Day: October 30, 2010
Last Day: February 26, 2011

Enrollment:

Enrollment opens Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 9am at Medicwest Ambulance.  Enrollment will be on a first come, first serve basis for the course and is open to 25 students in each class.  Due to the popularity of the class and documents needed, registration must be made in person.  This webpage will be updated when we are no longer accepting registration for this course.   The course runs for approximately 16 weeks and held at our station at 9 W. Delhi Av., N. Las Vegas 89032.  The cost of the course includes enrollment, all books, CPR for the Healthcare Professional, one class shirt and NREMT Practical Skills Testing.  The cost of the class is $1200.00.  Payment in the form of check or credit card will be accepted and full payment is due one week before the start of the class.

The student will be responsible for the NREMT Written Test fee that is administered by Pearson Education and fees to get the National Registry Certification to a Southern Nevada Health District Certification.  The student will also be responsible for having business type navy blue pants as part of the every day uniform policy.  Acceptable pants include but are not limited to Dickies style or "pocket pants".  Protective black footwear (covers entire foot and provides ankle support) must be worn at all times. Upon successful completion of the course students will be allowed to take the National Registry Exam to be certified as an EMT-Basic.  MedicWest Ambulance does not guarantee employment upon completion of the course.  Applications will be accepted from students successfully completing the National Registry Testing.

Required at time of Registration:

-Copy of High School Diploma or GED

-Copy of Drivers License or State ID

-Deposit of at least $200.00 

If any of these are missing – registration will not be accepted.

Upon registration you will receive information on the following:

1. A 10 panel drug testing is required at a specific location.  The cost is $28.00.

2. A criminal background investigation of 7 years is required through a specific location.  The cost is approximately $49.50 depending on how many counties you have lived in.

Emergency Medical Technician – Intermediate Course:

A Southern Nevada Health District licensed EMT-Intermediate (EMT-I) can perform as an EMT-Basic with additional training in intermediate emergency medical care. An EMT-I may provide intermediate emergency medical care only when functioning on duty as an Ambulance Attendant, Aeromedical Ambulance Attendant, or Firefighter Attendant.

Use of intravenous therapy, esophageal intubation, and limited medications are included at this level defined by the Department of Transportation National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) National Standard Curriculum.

A Southern Nevada Health District Certified EMT-I may provide basic and intermediate level emergency medical care only when functioning on duty as an Ambulance Attendant, Aeromedical Ambulance Attendant, or Firefighter Attendant.

-Copy of Childhood Immunizations including Chicken Pox, and MMR or Titre.

-Copy of Tetnus Shot within 10 years.
